Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the Invisible Switch detect my fingerprint?

A: No.  It works like an iPod.  It detects that a human has touched it.

Q: What prevents anyone from touching it and opening the car?

A: It functions like your door handle.  When the door is locked, it won’t open.  If you unlock just the driver’s door, then only the driver’s door can open.  If you unlock all doors, then all doors can be opened by touching the switch.

Q: How do I lock and unlock the doors?

A: You can use the existing factory remote to unlock and lock the doors.  This will enable or disable the Magic Touch Invisible Switch.  If you don’t have electric locks or a factory remote, you can install an aftermarket remote and connect two of the button outputs to the lock and unlock of the Magic Touch controller.  Also, a keyless locking system can be added that unlocks the vehicle when you approach the vehicle.

Q: Can the switch be used to control other things than opening the door?

A: Absolutely.  It is a switch that can control a relay, that can be connected to anything.  If you don’t need the solenoid, take 10% off of the order price.

Q: Where can I purchase Magic Touch Invisible Switches?

A: Ask your local dealer or custom installer if they carry Magic Touch.  If not, we can sign them up very quickly or the product can be purchased on our web site.

Q: How do I install it?

A: The Magic Touch Bolt-In handles are designed to bolt into the factory mounting holes of the original door handle. No bodywork is necessary. If you’ve shaved the handles already, or plan to install one of the Universal Switches in the mirror or on the glass.  The electronics are mounted in the door panel and wired in.  See our documentation in the specific product section.

Q: What if you don't currently carry a Bolt-In version for my model of vehicle?

A: If your vehicle is not listed in the list of Bolt-In versions, look to see if your car has the same handle as one of the supported models.  For example the Chrysler 300 and the Dodge Magnum use exactly the same factory handle.  The new Dodge Challenger uses the same handle as the Dodge Charger.  The Universal Invisible Switch will work with any model of vehicle.  They just don’t replace the factory door handle.

Q: What if my car already has shaved door handles?

A: Our Universal Invisible Switch is an easy addition to existing shaved door handle installations.  Instead of a door handle switch we supply you with an invisible switch that adheres to the inside of your window either just above the door or in the corner of your windshield or back window. You touch the outside of the glass where the switch was placed to open the door.  If you don’t need the solenoid, take 10% off of the order price.

Q: What happens if the battery dies, can I still get into my car?

A: We offer an optional backup battery system that powers the keyless entry system and the Magic Touch Invisible Switches. Even if the car battery is dead, your keyless entry and Magic Touch Invisible Switches will work.  With any shaved handle installation, it’s good practice to have a jumper post or cable that is accessible from outside the battery compartment, such as under the bumper.

Q: Is the Invisible Switch affected by weather conditions?

A: The switch is disabled when the car is locked. But if it is left unlocked in the rain the handle switch has a rain sensor and adjusts to other weather changes such as temperature, humidity, and the surrounding continually. The switch will detect the touch of your hand even in heavy rain.

Q: What other products do you make?

A: Magic Touch Invisible Switches are the first in a line of new touch sensitive products from LaFrance Autoworks. Visit our website www.lafranceautoworks.com on a regular basis for new product announcements.
